The overarching objective of the project is to establish a training centre at the quarters of the Faculty for Mechanical Engineering, University of Ljubljana.

The distinguishing features of the training facility are that that it integrates Fanuc industrial robotic arms, custom-developed low-cost mobile robots, and focuses not only on hands-on training, but also on the infrastructure that allows for parts of the training to be done remotely. The trainings are offered to students, local and foreign, at the master and at the early PhD levels, as well as to practitioners from industry.

The activities within the scope of the project also encompass:

– development of a low-cost mobile robot model that is compatible with the Robot Operating System (ROS),

– production of mobile robots and putting together mobile robot kits

– development of a curriculum for an educational programme for beginners in ROS

– prepration of the open-source training material for the tutorials and the code repository.

In September 2020, a five-days ROS Summer School was organised. The programme of the summer school covered the introduction to Linux and ROS and using ROS for working with a mobile robot and an industrial manipulator. The training tutorials of the summer school were conducted online and held in english. The participant trainees were working hands-on with the custom-developed  mobile-robot kit that they received before the beginning of the summer school.
