Localization system for CNC machining of large parts
Industrial project In cooperation with Elan d.o.o
When CNC machining large fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) composite parts, the part must be precisely located before machining. The exact position and shape is usually determined by the probing systems that use a probe integrated into a CNC machine. When measuring a large number of points, the probe system consumes a considerable amount of time and affects the CNC machine’s utilization in series production. In order to increase the probing speed and capture additional details, the MCE laboratory has developed a new optical probing system. The system developed offers a localization uncertainty of less than 0.15 mm in a measuring range of 1.5 x 0.3 m, which is a remarkable performance when measuring materials based on polyester or epoxy resin, which are partially transparent.
