Recent Publication in Composites Science and Technolgy

The research group of the Laboratory for Experimental Mechanics (LEM) of the Faculty of Mechnical Engineering, University of Ljubljana, performed a theoretical and experimental study in the field of carbonaceous nanocomposites, which focuses on the impact of network formation and network configuration in systems based on carbon nanotubes (CNTs), on the final mechanical properties and electrical conductivity of such composites. The research has been performed in collaboration with the research group at the Electronic Ceramics Department at Jožef Stefan Institute (IJS) and the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering at University of British Columbia (UBC). The results of the research have been published in a prestigious journal in the field of materials science, Composites Science and Technology (IF=9,879).

In the study and the resulting article, the researchers proved that the random network configuration significantly lowers the critical concentration of CNTs needed in order for the polymer to make the transition from an insulator to a conductor.
